IAMG-IITB Student Chapter proudly presents the Final Round of BHOOMATHON 2026, to be held at the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay.

 

Centered on the theme “AI-driven coal quality estimation using geophysical data,” the hackathon brings together participants to solve real-world geoscience challenges using AI and data-driven techniques. Finalists will showcase innovative analytical approaches and computational models in this national-level mathematical geoscience competition. The event aims to foster collaboration, research, and innovation at the intersection of geoscience and artificial intelligence.

IAMG–IITB Student Chapter Conducted Invited Talk by Prof. Bülent Tezkan on “Exploring the Subsurface: Electromagnetic Methods Across the Depth Scales” at Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay (April 6, 2026)

The talk, “Exploring the Subsurface: Electromagnetic Methods Across the Depth Scales", highlighted key electromagnetic techniques and their applications in subsurface exploration. IAMG–IITB Student Chapter Conducted Industry Talk in Association with Sun Petrochemicals as Part of ERSA Day 2026 on “Subsurface to Success – Advancing E&P through Geoscience” at Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay (March 21, 2026)

The IAMG–IITB Student Chapter, in association with Sun Petrochemicals Pvt. Ltd., organized an engaging industry talk as part of ERSA Day 2026 at the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay, on March 21, 2026. The session titled “Subsurface to Success – Advancing E&P through Geoscience” was delivered by Mr. Sankar Nayak, Vice President (Geology), Sun Petrochemicals Pvt. Ltd. The talk provided valuable industry insights into exploration and production workflows, emphasizing the critical role of geoscience in energy resource development. Students gained practical exposure to real-world applications, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices.

IAMG–IITB Student Chapter Conducted student interactive session on Cryosphere research at Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay (February 26, 2026)

The IAMG–IITB Student Chapter organized a student interaction session titled “Insights into Cryosphere Research” on 26 February 2026 at the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay. The session featured engaging discussions with distinguished researchers Dr. Remya S N, Dr. Atanu Bhattacharya, and Dr. Vishnu Nandan, who shared their expertise and research experiences in cryosphere science. Students gained valuable insights into current developments and research opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

IAMG–IITB Student Chapter Conducted Workshop on Spatial Statistical Analysis at Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay (December 29, 2025)

The IAMG–IITB Student Chapter conducted a student-led, hands-on workshop on Spatial Statistical Analysis on 29 December 2025 in hybrid mode, with participation from students and IAMG members both on campus and online. The workshop included a short theoretical session followed by a QGIS-based hands-on exercise, where participants learned spatial data handling, digitization, and basic spatial statistical analysis.

Student chapter president introduced IAMG-IITB Student Chapter during UG and PG departmental orientation at Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay (July 23-25, 2025)

Autumn semester orientation for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Program was conducted on 23rd July and 24th July respectively. Student Chapter president Mr. Mridul Yadav introduced the IAMG-IITB student chapter.

First meeting of IAMG-IITB student chapter council (April 30, 2025)

IAMG-IITB IAMG student chapter got approval on April 24, 2025 by the profound mentorship of the Prof. E. Chandrasekhar and Prof. G. Srinivasa Rao from Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay. IAMG council held its first meeting on 30th April, 2025, way forward and plans for upcoming session were discussed.

The inauguration function of IAMG-IITB Student Chapter held on 20th August, 2025 at Room No-21 VMCC, IIT Bombay (August 20, 2025)

The inauguration of IAMG-IITB Student chapter held on August 20, 2025, with an invited guest Prof. Archana Bhattacharyya, INSA Honorary Scientist, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism to promote and establish the student chapter at VMCC Seminar Room No. 21, IIT Bombay. The inaugural function hosted more than 120 students and professors. Prof. Bhattacharyya also delivered the inaugural lecture of the IAMG-IITB Student Chapter on the topic “Mathematics in Geomagnetism and Aeronomy: From Gauss to Artificial Intelligence”.
